The Fox Theatre opened on Peachtree Street in 1929, built in a lavish style inspired by Islamic and Egyptian architecture. Inside, the auditorium ceiling twinkles like a night sky above a Moorish courtyard.
It nearly disappeared. In the 1970s plans to tear it down sparked a citywide campaign to save it, and Atlantans rallied to keep the Fox standing.
Today it hosts touring Broadway shows, concerts, comedy and film screenings, and its glowing marquee is one of the most photographed sights in Midtown.
Arrive early so you have time to take in the lobby and ballrooms. Many visitors find the building itself the highlight of the night.
MARTA's North Avenue station is a short walk away, which beats hunting for parking on a show night.
